Playing Dirty by Susan Andersen

When high school golden boy Cade Gallari publicly revealed he’d slept with “fat girl” Ava Spencer to win a bet, he broke her heart. Now a decade older and a head-turner with her own concierge business, Ava isn’t the gullible dreamer she once was—and she plans to prove it when Cade, hotter than ever, breezes back into town with an offer she can’t refuse.

A documentary film producer, Cade is shooting a movie about the mysterious mansion Ava inherited. And he wants her as his personal concierge. She’s certainly professional enough to be at his beck and call without giving him everything he wants. Like another shot at having her in his bed. But Ava doesn’t count on Cade’s determination. Because he’s never gotten over her. And he’s not above playing dirty to score a second chance at a red-hot future…

Favorite Quote:

“You can’t disrupt your entire life—hell, my life—this way!  We’ve been having a relationship, if you can even call it that, for—what?—ten minutes in the overall scheme of things?”

“We’ve been in a relationship—and make no mistake, baby, we damn well can call it that—since we were eight years old.”

I’ve been waiting for this book for a while.  It’s the third in a series and we all know how I LOVE a series.  If you read the other two books (Jane’s story in Cutting Loose and Poppy’s in Bending the Rules), you are already sorta familiar with Ava’s story.

I didn’t know what to think of Cade initially.  What he did was reprehensible and how can you forgive something like that?  You realize that people make mistakes and you grow up.  I guess.  But anyway, from the beginning, I liked Cade.  He seemed sincere and it was easy to see he had it bad for Ava.  And I love how it was so obvious that he was in love with her…I guess I’m used to the woman realizing it first and the man running as far and as fast as he can to evade any sort of commitment.  Oh, Cade.  You had me at hello.

And the sexual chemistry was OFF THE CHARTS.  I’m all for a sweet falling in love story, but Cade and Ava had it bad for each other, even if Ava was all DENY DENY DENY.  I understand her hesitancy to believe anything Cade had to say, but when she finally gave in, they were HOT.  I don’t know what else to say, but that I highly recommend this book.

    Hi Dixie!
It was amazing how likeable Cade was right? I also was a bit on the fence about him but every doubt I had was cleared after the first two chapters. I honestly don’t know how Susan did it because he was such a jerk, but I guess that you can say that he was a kid and going through some rough time… Anyway, I need to read the first one!
I wasn’t aware of all the drama concerning the publication of the book, I’m so glad I didn’t discover this series when the first book was published, it must have been hell not knowing whether this book would be published or not…
