This thrilling sequel to the much-talked-about Nightshade begins just where it ended-Calla Tor wakes up in the lair of the Searchers, her sworn enemy, and she’s certain her days are numbered. But then the Searchers make her an offer-one that gives her the chance to destroy her former masters and save the pack-and the man-she left behind. Is Ren worth the price of her freedom? And will Shay stand by her side no matter what? Now in control of her own destiny, Calla must decide which battles are worth fighting and how many trials true love can endure and still survive.
Wolfsbane picks up right where Nightshade left off. Sooooooo SPOILERS AHEAD!!!!! Calla and Shay are on the run after the botched mating ceremony where Shay was supposed to be the sacrifice for Ren and Calla to prove they could run a pack. While at Shay’s house to pick up supplies they are ambushed by Searchers who take them back to their base. Once there they explain what exactly the history is for the Guardians as well as Shay’s part in it. Seems the Keepers have been lying to the Guardians to keep them loyal and Shay is the Scion, destined to save the Searchers and any Guardians that will align with them to fight the Keepers. Once they get Calla to agree to help they decide that they need to recruit more wolves, hopefully including Ren to have both Alphas. While planning the search and rescue mission the Searchers locate Calla’s brother from whom was the find out dismissed from the pack and is no longer a wolf so that he can be an example to the rest of the remaining pack. When Ansel talks of the torture the pack is going through, Calla is sent back with a team to save them pronto (to the frustration of Shay). Though some stay loyal and return with her, some have sworn alliance to the new pack, the Banes, who after Calla’s runaway bride maneuver have taken over both packs.
As I stated in my Nightshade review, I’m still Team Ren in this series. I mean, what is the deal with Shay’s attitude? Ren sacrifices his safety to save Shay because he knows that will make Calla happy, but he won’t do the same?? UGH. Pushing Calla into something he says she wants?? Tells her she doesn’t want to be with Ren?? How does he know this?? Obviously Ren cares for her and her for him if she is still wearing the ring given before the mating ceremony. You can’t expect her to change her entire way of life in one week. I still like Shay (barely) but he is acting like a bit of a douche. His reasoning for hating Ren is the SAME THING HE IS DOING!!!! Control much? UGH.
This entire book was action packed, which kept me turning pages and I finished this one in one day (even with work!). I really love this series which surprised me because even though I’ve read several books about wolves, they have never been my favorite on the supernatural side. We are still left with yet another cliff hanger like ending . . . though not as dramatic as Nightshade. I need Bloodrose NOW!!
TEAM REN!!!! I’m sticking with him.
