This week’s book we are casting:
In a single moment, everything changes. Seventeen-year-old Mia has no memory of the accident; she can only recall riding along the snow-wet Oregon road with her family. Then, in a blink, she finds herself watching as her own damaged body is taken from the wreck…
A sophisticated, layered, and heart-achingly beautiful story about the power of family and friends, the choices we all make, and the ultimate choice Mia commands.
Kristina & I LOVE this series, as does just about anyone who’s read it. It’s such an amazing love story and so heartbreaking at the same time. Mia and Adam are such a perfect couple. Both so into their music and each other, but even Adam’s love might not be enough to bring Mia back when she is on death’s door. This book is so haunting, so emotionally draining, so beautiful…I can’t even…ugh. Understandably, casting something so beloved is going to be hard. Particularly Adam, my underage, fake boyfriend #2, after Jay from the Body Finder series. But let’s not get ahead of ourselves, shall we?
Mia, a very talented cellist, Julliard bound, is in a car wreck which claimed the life of her parents and has herself and her baby brother, Teddy, on death’s door. She is the odd duck in her family of hippies, preferring classical music to rock. Mia is brought in to the ICU and is having an out-of-body experience, witnessing all that is happening in the hospital with her friends and family. She intrinsically knows that she must choose: Should she stay or should she go? If she goes, she’ll never have to live with the heartache of losing her entire family, especially young Teddy. But she will never be the star cellist, experience college…she’ll have to give up Adam. But if she stays… Our pick for Mia is Willa Holland. You might remember Willa from The O. C., where she played Kaitlyn Cooper, Marissa’s younger sister. Today, she’s on Arrow on the CW. I picked Willa because she has a soft beauty, she looks like she would be polite and sweet and not cause too much trouble (despite her stint as a hussy on The O. C.) , a total status quo kind of girl.
Adam Wilde, Mia’s boyfriend and soulmate, her other half, waits in the hospital for Mia to either wake up or slip away. Adam is in a band, Shooting Star, in which he sings and plays guitar. This is basically the only thing he has in common with Mia, but their connection is solid, intense, like only first love can be. Adam is a very idealized version of the rock and roll stereotype. He’s beautiful, dedicated to his music and to Mia, and ultimately, completely unselfish. Talk about hard to cast! But I think I pulled it off. This is Avan Jogia. Isn’t he hot?!?!?!? He’s currently on Victorious and I can just see him, in my head, onstage, in black leather pants and a ripped t-shirt, holding a mike and, eyes closed, just SINGing. (But, and maybe this is the mom in me, I think he needs a bit of a trim in the hair department.) Or something like this:
So that’s all we have for you this week! What do you think of our choices? Thanks for stopping by! And don’t forget to check out our friends to see who they cast.
