Turned At Dark by C.C. Hunter

tadIndependent and strong-willed Della Tsang did not believe in ghosts, until she sees her dead cousin in a dark alley. She did not believe in vampires, until she turns into one. Should she follow her vampire cousin’s lead and walk away from everything she knows, or join Shadow Falls, a camp for special teens.

Story Breakdown:

After attending a party, Della is attacked and injured.  She is saved by her cousin. . . who is supposed to be dead.  Della learns that he is a vampire and that she isn’t so normal herself, or even as human as she would like to think.

Character Highlights:

Della –  I believe Della will be a secondary character in the rest of the Shadow Falls series if the blurbs I’ve read are correct (I double checked) and I hope to learn more about her in the future.   Since the novella focuses on how she was turned into a vampire and her reaction to how her life will now be you don’t learn much about the Shadow Falls Academy or her role there.  She seems like she will be an interesting character in the series.

Chan – Della’s cousin, he is believed to be dead but we find out is now a vampire.  Chan tries to help Della during her transitional phases but I found him too abrupt for my taste.

Overall Thoughts:  I didn’t care for the way Della’s family reacted to what they thought was happening but I understand the need for some sort of explanation and with this being a novella there isn’t too much time for a drawn out explanation.  It was a quick story to open up the world and though it reads extremely fast I didn’t find it completely engaging but again, its a novella.  I’m very interested in seeing how the first full length book in the series pans out.
