Jenny Wales is a local television star who has everything she needs: good friends, a great career, and a gorgeous apartment with an outstanding shower. The only thing missing in her life is love, something that she hasn’t made time for in her quest to be the best reporter in town.
An international soccer star, Paolo Gutierrez is a reluctant celebrity looking for a quieter life away from the glitz and glamour of Europe. He longs for chance to remember the game he loves and build a life for himself far from the paparazzi’s lens.
When Jenny and Paolo meet, it’s love at first sight. It should be a simple story of boy meets girl, but the team, the town, and the entire world seem to have an opinion on their love affair. Up against a losing streak, Victoria Beckham wannabes, and the risk of losing their careers, Jenny and Paolo will have to fight to win this game of love.
Jenny is the shining star in her Oklahoma City morning news program. She doesn’t really have time for dating. She’s a bit of a hardass, but she’s ambitious and beautiful and very charismatic. Everyone loves Jenny, but she’s a litle lonely.
Paolo is the famous Juan Carlos Paolo “The Assassin” Guiterrez, who’s come to Oklahoma City to be in on the groundfloor of the building of OKC’s new professional soccer team. He’s grown weary of being in Europe, where “football” is king and women are throwing themselves at him and the paparazzi are relentless.
Jenny and Paolo are thrown together by their well-meaning mutual friend, Rocky, and the sparks fly.
This book was very funny, right from the start, with Dora, Jenny’s 87 year old fan, watching Jenny on television. The relationship between Jenny and Paolo started off sweet and hot, neither of them in a big hurry to jump right in the sack because they’re being careful and enjoying the sparks. I liked this aspect, the waiting, Jenny being a “good girl” like her mama expects from her. And I loved that Paolo wasn’t some horndog, trying to get in Jenny’s pants from jump, but he was kinda geeky and had a tendency to blush.
It was a very cute, lighthearted story with very likable main characters, though it has to be pointed out that the secondary characters were pretty great, too, particularly Rocky. This would be perfect for a lazy day, as it’s pretty short and completely engaging.
