Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly feature hosted by Breaking the Spine.
Let’s see what I’m waiting on this week. . .
The Bear and The Nightingale by Katherine Arden
A young woman’s family is threatened by forces both real and fantastical in this debut novel inspired by Russian fairy tales.
In a village at the edge of the wilderness of northern Russia, where the winds blow cold and the snow falls many months of the year, a stranger with piercing blue eyes presents a new father with a gift – a precious jewel on a delicate chain, intended for his young daughter. Uncertain of its meaning, Pytor hides the gift away and Vasya grows up a wild, willful girl, to the chagrin of her family. But when mysterious forces threaten the happiness of their village, Vasya discovers that, armed only with the necklace, she may be the only one who can keep the darkness at bay.
I only noticed this book on Monday. Someone received a copy (via pub or trade I cannot say) and the title made me stop and go look on good reads. When I did? Can we just go over three words from above? RUSSIAN FAIRY TALE. I couldn’t sign up to read this one fast enough. I immediately looked at who the publisher was, did I know someone? HOW DO I GET MY HANDS ON THIS? I went from 0 to 100 QUICK. Suffice it to say I’m going to try to track someone down and take my chances requesting this one. If not there is a good chance the wait could leave me with permanent damage.
What about you? What are you waiting on this week?
