Listen to Your Heart by Kasie West

Listen to Your Heart by Kasie West

Talking to other people isn’t Kate Bailey’s favorite activity. She’d much rather be out on the lake, soaking up the solitude and sunshine. So when her best friend, Alana, convinces Kate to join their high school’s podcast, Kate is not expecting to be chosen as the host. Now she’ll have to answer calls and give advice on the air? Impossible.

But to Kate’s surprise, she turns out to be pretty good at the hosting gig. Then the podcast gets in a call from an anonymous guy, asking for advice about his unnamed crush. Kate is pretty sure that the caller is gorgeous Diego Martinez, and even surer that the girl in question is Alana. Kate is excited for her friend … until Kate herself starts to develop feelings for Diego. Suddenly, Kate finds that while doling out wisdom to others may be easy, asking for help is tougher than it looks, and following your own advice is even harder.

To sum this one up in one sentence?  It was an absolute delight.  I literally read this in a few hours and had a smile on my face the entire time.  Ms West made sure to modernize the plot with podcasts (a new obsession of mine) and I’m appreciative of that.  I’d have loved to go to a high school with some sort of program like that and to showcase kids participating in activities other than sports teams was also a nice break from the same ole same ole if you know what I mean.

All of the characters were so darn cute that I just wanted to hug them.  I knew right away what more than likely was going on and though it changed slightly that course didn’t shift too much and it was still cute and somewhat surprising.  I look forward to reading more from Ms West in the future.
