I’m Daphne and I am a reader, a mother, a wife, a southerner born and raised.  My taste in books runs the gamut from romance (pg-rated or r-rated, as long as there are kisses), chick lit, YA, paranormal, mysteries…I generally prefer books that have some humor and romance in them.  I have a long list of favorite authors, starting with the queen of all, Ms. Jane Austen. Other favorites include JK Rowling, Meg Cabot, Maeve Binchy, Kristan Higgins, Susan Elizabeth Phillips, Lori Foster, Sarah Dessen, Maureen Johnson, Susan Andersen, Erin McCarthy, Susan Mallery, Cassandra Clare, Suzanne Collins, Rick Riordan…the list goes ON AND ON AND ON.  I have a special place in my heart for a series, the longer the better.  Some people may weep at the sight of “Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix,” which comes in at over 900 pages, but I do the dance of joy!  I always have to have a book on standby.  I’m a chain reader; put one down, pick up the next.

I was a big reader as a kid, I remember going to the library at school and reading all the biographies of famous people like Benjamin Franklin and Johnny Appleseed.  But as I grew older, I read less and less, until after my first son was born.  I became obsessed.  I would go to the library and check out 15 books at a time and read one a night.  I’ve slacked off some, I’m down to 2-3 a week.

I prefer for a series to finish before I start reading them.  I read all 7 Harry Potters back to back in 2 months and was CRAZY OBSESSED with them for a year after, re-reading, reading fanfiction, talking about them AD NAUSEUM.  And I was over 30 at the time!  I read in the car, which my husband hates.  But that’s okay, cause he gets to pick the radio, so we’re even.  I like talking about books and trying to get others to read (try this tasty crack, you’ll like it!), and I think me and books are in it for the long haul.  We’re BFFs.

  1. OMG THIS IS ME RIGHT HERE! You totally remind me of myself; the only difference is I’m 22 and currently a high school teacher juggling grad school. Books more than rule! They rock!
