The Winter Witch by Paula Brackston Winter Solstice Tour

winterIn her small Welsh town, there is no one quite like Morgana.  She has never spoken, and her silence as well as the magic she can’t quite control make her a mystery. Concerned for her safety, her mother quickly arranges a marriage with Cai Bevan, the widower from the far hills who knows nothing of the rumors that swirl around her. After their wedding, Morgana is heartbroken at leaving, but she soon falls in love with Cai’s farm and the rugged mountains that surround it, while slowly Cai himself begins to win her heart. It’s not long, however, before her strangeness begins to be remarked upon in her new village.  A dark force is at work there—a person who will stop at nothing to turn the townspeople against Morgana, even at the expense of those closest to her.  Forced to defend her home, her love, and herself from all comers, Morgana must learn to harness her power, or she will lose everything.

Overall Thoughts –

I had actually been debating reading this book for quite some time so I was very thankful to be included for the Solstice Tour but it has been so long since I’ve really taken the time to read and review an adult book that I was at a loss on how to start a review for WW.  In the end I decided to forgo my normal breakdown and just do an overall thoughts since there are so many details I couldn’t reveal in a breakdown.

This book is so beautifully written and descriptive that you get a real sense of every detail in the landscape, character’s expressions, conversations, etc.  “Watching” Morgana and Cai as they grow accustomed to each other and how their relationship develops was both heartwarming and frustrating at times.  Also, I think the title might be deceiving for some since this isn’t a heavy-handed paranormal/fantasy but balanced more with a love story and some loss along the way.

Anyone looking for an engaging historical fiction would love this book.  I look forward to picking up more books by Ms Brackston in the future and will be adding her to my adult authors to follow.

3.75/5
