BOOK AVENGERS: A MISSION TO SAVE YOUR BACKLIST

Happy New Year! As you know, with a new year starting there will be many debuts of new challenges and features.  Well, Sarah from What Sarah Read and I have one too.  We’ve been chatting for a while about wanting to start a feature together and we came up with a little something to help us not only catch up with a few older titles but to also include friends who might need to do the same or just want to show love to an older book.  So, without further delay let’s chat about what we came up with!!

WHY BOOK AVENGERS?

Because when bloggers are passionate about a book we stick up for it through thick and thin.  We’re constantly trying to convince people to read a book we love.  That’s what we do.  We’re book pushers.

So, we thought if we love a book so much wouldn’t we want to avenge it? Specifically, older titles that we’ve missed or maybe haven’t quite finished the series. That’s how the idea of Book Avengers was born!

HOW DOES IT WORK?

We, Kristina and Sarah, will read one backlist book a month and post a dual review the third Monday of each month. We also want to see what YOU thought of the book when you read it! So, once we read and post our reviews of each month’s backlist book, we hope others will join us in showing our backlist pick some love and linking up either their past reviews or current if you decided to read along with us.

OHHH…AND THERE MAY BE SOME BOOKISH GIVEAWAYS INVOLVED! JUST SAYIN’!

You guys will be a huge part of us picking books too! In our review posts we’ll list three potential books for the next month. Know of a book you think needs more love? Something we should have read already? Then VOTE!!  AVENGE YOUR FAVORITES! The book with the most votes will be our pick for the following month. Even if your book doesn’t make the cut that month, there is always next month to try again!

We’ll be taking turns hosting the feature on our blog each month, so be sure to follow Kristina and Sarah to stay in the know. You can find us here…

HOW WILL YOU BE PICKING YOUR LIST FOR THE NEXT BOOK?

The first requirement is that we both haven’t read it.  If we are reading a series, there is a good chance we will include the sequel in the next month’s selections as well.  Other than that?  Anything is possible!  If you want to become a book avenger too, then rally to get your favorite backlist book on the voting list by tweeting us.  Use our hashtag #bookavengers and BE HEARD!

WHAT BOOKS WILL YOU GUYS BE READING FIRST?

We went ahead and did things a little differently for just this month, and already selected our first backlist book…The Darkest Minds by Alexandra Bracken.  Both of us have had this book on our TBRs for a while now, and with all of the excitement surrounding the release of Passenger, we thought it would be fun to read on of Alexandra’s backlist titles as well!

When Ruby woke up on her tenth birthday, something about her had changed. Something frightening enough to make her parents lock her in the garage and call the police. Something that got her sent to Thurmond, a brutal government “rehabilitation camp.” She might have survived the mysterious disease that had killed most of America’s children, but she and the others emerged with something far worse: frightening abilities they could not control.

Now sixteen, Ruby is one of the dangerous ones. When the truth comes out, Ruby barely escapes Thurmond with her life. She is on the run, desperate to find the only safe haven left for kids like her—East River. She joins a group of kids who have escaped their own camp. Liam, their brave leader, is falling hard for Ruby. But no matter how much she aches for him, Ruby can’t risk getting close. Not after what happened to her parents. When they arrive at East River, nothing is as it seems, least of all its mysterious leader. But there are other forces at work, people who will stop at nothing to use Ruby in their fight against the government. Ruby will be faced with a terrible choice, one that may mean giving up her only chance at having a life worth living.

If you haven’t read it yet, please join us!!!  We want to hear what you think! Follow along using the hashtag #bookavengers

We’d love to hear what you think about our new feature! We’re pretty excited about it and hope you are too! Feel free to share your pick for our February book while you’re at it!
